Braves stage comeback, nip Reds in 10 innings

Marcell Ozuna singled home the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Atlanta Braves a 2-1 win over the visiting Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday.

With runners on first and second, Ozuna lined a single to left field off reliever Lyon Richardson (0-1), who had been recalled from Triple-A Louisville earlier in the day. The hit scored automatic runner Alex Verdugo without a throw.

Raisel Iglesias (2-2) was the winning pitcher for the Braves.

The win was the third straight for Atlanta and the fourth loss in a row for the Reds. Atlanta has won the first two games in the four-game set.

Both teams scored a run in the ninth inning.

Santiago Espinal broke the scoreless tie with an RBI single off reliever Daysbel Hernandez to drive in Elly De La Cruz, who singled and stole second base. Espinal, who ended a no-hitter in the eighth inning on Monday, extended his hitting streak to seven games.

The Braves tied the game in the bottom half against closer Emilio Pagan. Sean Murphy walked and pinch-runner Stuart Fairchild scored when Michael Harris II laced a double to right field to tie the game.

Cincinnati starter Andrew Abbott pitched five scoreless innings. He allowed four hits, no walks and struck out eight in his first career start against the Braves.

Atlanta starter Chris Sale threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings in his 300th career start. He allowed five hits, two walks and struck out 10 for the second straight game.

Both teams wasted scoring opportunities earlier in the game.

The Reds had a couple of good chances to score. They had runners at second and third with one out in the first inning and failed to score. Austin Wynns opened the seventh inning with a double off the top of the wall in left and Cincinnati couldn't cash in.

The Braves had runners on the corners with no outs and the bases loaded with two outs in the seventh inning and failed to score.

The Reds said Tyler Callihan broke two bones in his left forearm on Monday when he crashed into the sidewall down the left field line. Callihan underwent surgery Tuesday and is expected to miss at least two months.
