The two-time All-Star missed 17 games with the foot problem early this season. An ankle injury last month has caused him to miss the past six games.
The 28-year-old LaVine ends his 10th NBA season at 25 games played. He scored 19.5 points per game and was averaging a career-high 5.2 points. LaVine also was a key piece in a number of rumored deals as next week's NBA trade deadline nears.
LaVine is expected to be out of action for four to six months.
Drafted out of UCLA with the 13th pick overall by Minnesota in 2014, LaVine played three seasons with the Timberwolves before being dealt in June 2017 to the Bulls along with Kris Dunn and the No. 7 overall pick for Jimmy Butler and the No. 16 overall pick.
He has career marks of 20.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game.
