Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports Jaylon Tyson scored 22 points, Fardaws Aimaq recorded a double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds and Cal snapped its year-long losing streak in Pac-12 Conference play with a 66-57 defeat of host UCLA on Saturday in Los Angeles.
The Golden Bears (5-10, 1-3) held the Bruins scoreless for the opening 5:14, jumping ahead with the game's first nine points to take a lead they never relinquished.
Cal, which last won in conference play one year to the day of Saturday's contest, pushed its advantage to as many as 13 points in the first half and 14 in the second. The 57 points to which the Golden Bears held UCLA were the fewest Cal surrendered this season.
The Bruins (6-9, 1-3) shot 21 of 48 to Cal's 23 of 58, and just 2 of 10 from 3-point range to the Golden Bears' 8 of 20.
Jalen Cone capped the Golden Bears' night shooting from beyond the arc, connecting with 1:17 remaining to put the game away after UCLA cut the deficit to six points.
Cone scored 12 points to help Cal snap an 18-game Pac-12 regular-season losing streak — 19 games with its loss in the 2023 conference tournament - and a 16-game road skid.
For UCLA, the loss marked its fourth straight at home and its third in a row overall.
Sebastian Mack led the Bruins with 20 points, Adem Bona added 14 on 5-of-5 shooting from the floor and Dylan Andrews chipped in 10. No other UCLA scorer finished with more than four points.
Cal dominated UCLA on the glass 39-29, including 14 offensive rebounds to the Bruins' six. Tyson backed up Aimaq's effort with six rebounds.
Tyson's game-high point total, meanwhile, extended his streak of games with 20-plus points to four. He shot 9 of 12 from the floor, including 2 of 3 from beyond the arc.
