Mandatory Credit: David Banks-Imagn Images Chicago Cubs right-hander Edward Cabrera is ready to rejoin the rotation for the first time since being carted off the field with a hamstring injury on June 23.
Manager Craig Counsell confirmed Friday that Cabrera will come off the 15-day injured list and start Sunday's home game against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Cabrera, 28, struck out seven batters and walked one in five hitless innings for Double-A Knoxville against Rocket City during a rehab start on Tuesday.
In his sixth major league season, Cabrera was 5-4 with a 5.10 ERA in 14 starts before going on the IL on June 24 with a left hamstring strain, which happened while he was covering first base the previous day against the New York Mets.
Cabrera is in his first season with Chicago after being acquired in a trade from the Miami Marlins in January. For his career, he is 30-33 with a 4.21 ERA in 103 games (101 starts) for the Marlins (2021-25) and Cubs.
