Mandatory Credit: Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Edward Cabrera was carted off the field after the fifth inning due to an apparent leg injury in Tuesday's game against the host New York Mets.
With two on and the Cubs holding a 7-2 lead, Jared Young hit a ground ball that got by first baseman Michael Busch and was fielded by second baseman Nico Hoerner on the right field grass. Cabrera raced over to cover first, did a split to catch the throw and felt pain in his leg.
Cabrera was unable to put weight on his leg and was helped to the cart by a trainer and manager Craig Counsell.
Cabrera allowed two runs on three hits in five innings. He is 4-4 with a 5.10 ERA in 14 starts during his first season for the Cubs after being acquired in the offseason from the Miami Marlins.
Earlier in the game, Cabrera was hit in the leg fielding a comebacker to the mound by Young. Last week he exited a start against the Colorado Rockies due to right hand cramping.
