D.C. United sign veteran GK Sean Johnson through '27

Sokolowski-Imagn Images D.C. United have signed free agent goalkeeper Sean Johnson, a veteran of more than 400 MLS matches.
The deal announced with Johnson, 36, on Tuesday night runs through June 2027.
Johnson won the 2021 MLS Cup with New York City FC and spent the past three seasons with Toronto FC.
"He brings valuable international experience having represented the U.S. men's national team, and his leadership and competitive mentality will elevate our entire team," managing director of soccer operations Dr. Erkut Sogut said. "Sean is a proven winner having won the 2021 MLS Cup with New York City, and we look forward to welcoming him to the Black-and-Red family."
Johnson recorded seven clean sheets in 31 starts for Toronto in 2025. He has recorded 109 shutouts in 431 starts for the Chicago Fire (2010-16), NYCFC (2017-22) and Toronto. The MVP of the 2021 MLS Cup was named an MLS All-Star in 2022.
He earned 13 caps with the U.S. Men's National Team from 2011-23 and was on the roster for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
