The Devils are 8-0-1 at home this season, joining the league-leading Colorado Avalanche (8-0-2) as the only teams without a regulation loss on home ice. Monday's victory ended the Devils' three-game losing streak, which came in the final three stops of a five-game road trip.
Connor Brown, Timo Meier and Nico Hischier each had a goal and an assist. Cody Glass scored New Jersey's other goal.
Markstrom earned his sixth win of the season. It was a much-needed strong outing for the struggling goalie, who has been losing playing time to Jake Allen.
The Red Wings outshot the Devils 35-19, including 28-11 over the last two periods. Markstrom held steady against this pressure, making a huge pad save to deny Patrick Kane late in the third period.
Alex DeBrincat, Dylan Larkin and James van Riemsdyk scored for the Red Wings, who are 1-2-0 in their last three games. Moritz Seider had two assists and Cam Talbot stopped 15 of 19 shots.
Meier's goal 12:54 into the game started a flurry of scoring before the first intermission. DeBrincat equalized for Detroit at the 16:33 mark, but Hischier restored the Devils' lead with a well-placed shot from the slot 1:25 later.
With 56 seconds remaining in the period, Glass made it a two-goal game by redirecting a Luke Hughes point shot into the net. Glass was making his return from the injured reserve after missing four games due to an upper-body injury.
Playing in his 1,100th NHL game, Van Riemsdyk scored a power-play goal 1:30 into the second. New Jersey countered van Riemsdyk's tally with the eventual game-winning goal as Brown scored at the 8:38 mark of the middle frame.
Larkin's team-leading 13th goal again made it a one-goal game 10:12 into the third, but the Wings couldn't find the equalizer.
