The Curry College Colonels football team starts practicing for the new season on Wednesday August 13, 2025 Running back Montie Quinn of Division III Curry College set an NCAA record with 522 rushing yards in a 71-27 win over Nichols on Saturday.
Quinn, a 5-foot-9, 180-pound senior, needed just 20 carries to set the mark. He scored seven touchdowns on runs of 85, 84, 76, 64, 58, 30 and 2 yards, and he averaged 26.1 yards per carry.
The record is for all NCAA levels.
"What Montie did today was nothing short of amazing. Breaking the NCAA rushing record is a monumental achievement," Curry coach Todd Parsons said, per ESPN.
Quinn broke the record set by Cartel Brooks of Division III Heidelberg when he ran for 465 yards in 2013. Samaje Perine of Oklahoma set the FBS record of 427 in 2014.
Quinn did not play the final two drives for Curry (5-1), located in Milton, Mass. He also set the Curry record for touchdowns and broke his own program rushing record, set last season with 381 yards.
He leads Division III in rushing with 1,450 yards and said Saturday his goal is a 2,000-yard season. He has 17 touchdowns and has eclipsed 200 yards in three games thus far this season.
He gave credit to his teammates for the record.
"I'm just humbled and grateful. Breaking the record is something I never imagined coming into today," Quinn said, per ESPN. "The O-line was dominating all game, receivers were blocking like crazy, and coaches put us in position to make plays. This belongs to all of us. I just happened to be the one carrying the ball."
