Vasquez-Imagn Images The Los Angeles Dodgers placed All-Star Will Smith on the injured list with neck inflammation and recalled fellow catcher Chuckie Robinson from Triple-A Oklahoma City in advance of Thursday's road game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The 10-day IL move is retroactive to Monday.
Smith, 31, has not appeared in a game since Friday, with manager Dave Roberts originally expecting his regular catcher to miss no more than two games. Dalton Rushing has been the team's primary catcher ever since.
A three-time All-Star who played in four games for the United States during the World Baseball Classic, Smith is batting .249 with six home runs and 23 RBIs in 52 games. A career .263 hitter in eight seasons with the Dodgers, he has 134 home runs with 465 RBIs.
Robinson, 31, was batting .260 with two home runs and 18 RBIs in 21 games at Oklahoma City. He played one game for the Dodgers last season and has 52 games of major league experience with the Cincinnati Reds (2022), Chicago White Sox (2024) and Dodgers, while batting .131 with two home runs and five RBIs.
Rushing was 5-for-15 (.333) with a home run over the first four games Smith was unavailable. Rushing was in the starting lineup again Thursday against the Pirates, batting eighth.
