Mandatory Credit: Mitch Stringer-Imagn Images Tyler "Snoop" Huntley will be the starting quarterback for the Miami Dolphins in Monday night's game against the visiting Tennessee Titans.
Huntley will make his Dolphins debut and veteran Tim Boyle will serve as his backup with Tua Tagovailoa still in the concussion protocol and Skylar Thompson dealing with a rib injury, coach Mike McDaniel confirmed Saturday.
"Snoop has started multiple and many big games," McDaniel said. "...As a quarterback, understanding exactly what is required to win over teammates to take the place of someone else and assert their own personality and skillset and traits within the offense and lead people."
Miami signed Huntley, 26, off Baltimore's practice squad on Sept. 17. He played in 20 games and made nine starts (3-6 record) for the Ravens from 2020-23.
Huntley, who was named to the Pro Bowl after the 2022 season, has completed 64.6 percent of his passes for 1,957 yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. He has rushed for 509 yards and three scores.
Huntley told reporters on Thursday that he was getting the hang of McDaniel's offense.
"It's like riding a bike -- first time, you're a little iffy, you didn't know how to pedal," Huntley said. "Then you just start putting it all together, pedaling, going in a straight line, then after a while, you're going to start standing up."
Huntley was the emergency third quarterback for Miami (1-2) in last Sunday's 24-3 loss at Seattle. Thompson was 13-of-19 passing for 107 yards and was sacked five times before exiting. Boyle completed 7 of 13 passes for 79 yards. Neither had a touchdown or an interception.
Huntley spent four seasons with the Ravens and made all his starts while Lamar Jackson was sidelined with injuries. He went to training camp with the Cleveland Browns this year and was later released.
Huntley, who grew up in the Miami area, was asked this week about potentially starting for the Dolphins against the Titans (0-3).
"That's a child's dream," he said. "Being able to play for your home team ... it'd mean everything in the world."
