Doug Gilmour Traded Away His Son
NHL Hall of Famer Doug Gilmour is the GM of the OHL's Kingston Frontenacs, and last year spent an eighth-round pick on his son Jake. The Gilmour genes only bought Jake a year—yesterday, Doug sent his son packing for basically nothing.
To add insult to injury, here's how the move was announced on the Frontenacs' official site:
It's conceivable Doug realized Kingston had a glut of forwards, and his son's only path to stardom lay elsewhere. It's more conceivable that Jake Gilmour isn't very good.
This sort of thing happens. In 2010, then-Calgary Flames GM Darryl Sutter traded away his son Brett, a week after Brett was involved in a bar fight. Hockey comes before blood.
