Ravens To Cut Defensive Tackle Under Investigation For Animal Cruelty

Ravens defensive tackle Terrence Cody's one-year contract expires in March, but the team isn't waiting until then to cut ties with him. The Ravens announced today that they will release Cody after the Super Bowl. Coincidentally or not—Baltimore didn't give a reason for his release—police are reportedly investigating Cody for animal cruelty.

Per the Baltimore Sun, Baltimore County police are talking to Cody about animal cruelty involving a dog. No charges have been filed yet, and details are scarce. Cody would be a free agent in about a month anyway, but it appears the Ravens will let him sort out matters on his own.

Update (1:59 p.m.): Cody's agent says the dog died from worms. Via Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports:

Terrence Cody's agent Peter Schaffer says his client's dog died due to worms. "There was no animal cruelty," Schaffer said. "If this affects at all my client's ability to get a job, I'm going to do everything in my legal power to protect his rights."
