Wake Forest Radio Announcer Fired For Giving Game Prep Materials To Opponents
Photo credit: Brian Blanco/ [object Object] Wake Forest announced that football radio announcer Tommy Elrod—a former player and coach at the school—was fired from his position and banned from athletic facilities, after it was discovered that Elrod has been giving or attempting to give game prep materials to opposing teams for at least two years.
From the release:
Based on emails, text messages and phone records, Tommy Elrod, a radio announcer for Wake Forest football games, provided or attempted to provide confidential and proprietary game preparations on multiple occasions, starting in 2014.
No members of the Wake Forest athletic department, football staff or players were involved in any way in these actions.
The subterfuge was discovered last month. After being beaten by Louisville 44-12, Wake Forest discovered “materials” left behind that indicated Louisville was aware of plays that the Demon Deacons had never run before. Louisville coach Bobby Petrino thundered around about integrity, while Wake Forest announced they would be investigating the situation.
Wake Forest ends their season against Temple in the Military Bowl, on Dec. 27.
