FC Dallas was held scoreless in the second half in a 1-1 road tie with Sporting Kansas City on Saturday afternoon in Kansas City, Kan., a result that eliminated the club from winning the Western Conference with one regular-season match remaining.

Goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland of Kansas City stopped Petar Musa's penalty kick in the 96th minute to preserve a draw.

Herman Johansson opened the scoring in the 19th minute for Dallas (15-8-10, 55 points), which has failed to win in its past two matches. Jonathan Sirois made three saves for Dallas, which won two of six matches (2-2-2) this month.

Jansen Miller scored for Kansas City, which was playing in its home finale, in first-half stoppage time. That gave the defender a goal for the first time in 38 career MLS matches.

Kansas City (6-22-5, 23 points), holder of the worst record in the MLS, has a seven-match winless streak, going 0-5-2 in October.

Dallas can tie the Vancouver Whitecaps in points, but the conference-leading Whitecaps won both regular-season meetings and clinched the West when Dallas tied.

Johansson, a midfielder, produced his first career MLS goal in his 22nd match. An assist went to Ran Binyamin.

Miller's header tied the score off a free kick from Owen Wolff.

The final big scoring chance came for Dallas after Miller was called for a handball in the penalty area. Cleveland made a diving stop of Musa's penalty kick.

Musa had the winning goal on a penalty kick in Dallas' 4-3 victory against Kansas City on Sept. 5 at home.

In seven winless October matches (0-5-2), Kansas City managed one goal in five of those and was a shutout victim in another.
