The rest of the world is finally ready to admit that Dallas' Zeke Elliott is running on fumes
Bob Sturm of The Athletic explains in a recent piece that scouts are whispering that Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is done — without actually saying it. “He has very little left in his legs, and the word is out.” So, in other words, scouts are noticing what most of the football world h...

Trading Justin Fields shouldn’t even be a discussion
The Chicago Bears own the No. 1 pick — congratulations on yet another successful tank — and some hosts of sports debate shows are weighing whether they should trade Justin Fields and then draft Bryce Young. This is ridiculous and not going to happen. ...

Madden developers must be shitting their britches right now. Despite being the third-best-selling game of 2022 in the U.S., the Madden developers are finally doing something they’ve never done before — putting effort into their product....
The good and bad of college football's potential rule changes
As part of what appears to be a player safety initiative, the NCAA Rules Committee is considering changing a few rules in order to limit players’ “exposures” on the field. What does that mean exactly? Well, according to reports, these changes are intended to protect player health, and could, in turn...
Two letters to the editor do not constitute outrage
Kill me if I’m ever so compelled to write into a publication — instead of just leaking that sludge onto social media — to tsk-tsk the Kansas City Chiefs for drinking during a fucking Super Bowl parade. As someone who’s edited uncut letters to the editor before, no one is more self-righteous than the...
What happens when Aaron Rodgers emerges and Derek Carr has stolen the Jets' hearts?
The New York Jets are stuck between a rock and a hard place, otherwise known as Aaron Rodgers and Derek Carr. On one hand, the quarterback upgrade they’ve been clamoring for just ghosted everyone so he could embark on a darkness retreat. After two decades in Green Bay, it’s fair to wonder if he’s up...

Philadelphia’s former offensive and defensive coordinators — Shane Steichen and Jonathan Gannon — have been hired as head coaches for the Indianapolis Colts and the Arizona Cardinals, respectively. Their hirings were just the latest examp...
Being a backup QB is the best gig in all of sports
Amid the controversy surrounding the holding penalty at the end of Super Bowl LVII, rumors of Andy Reid’s retirement, and people trashing Travis Kelce for saying everyone doubted Kansas City when absolutely zero people doubted them, several other storylines have been overlooked. While Andy Reid may ...
Something’s gotta change for Eric Bienemy to become a head coach
It was another year in which the Chiefs’ offense looked dominant en route to their second Super Bowl in four seasons. Missouri’s only NFL team has hosted a conference championship game each of the last five seasons and was defeated in regulation zero times. Patrick Mahomes gets the spoils as the bes...
Parade Pat returns, Travis Kelce shoots Fireball, and more from the Kansas City parade
The only time the internet gets joy over someone else’s happiness is when they’re drunk and making a fool of themselves. That’s why we loved parade Klay Thompson in June, and adored Patrick Mahomes from a few years back. Even Tom Brady throwing the Lombardi between boats was entertaining, and there ...
Philadelphia Eagles fans’ biggest misstep? Hope
Welcome to Deadspin’s The Sports Nihilist, where all is for naught and we are but accidental jolts of electrified meat stuck to the surface of a rock in an indifferent universe. Fuck you....

The red-zone tactic that won the Chiefs the Super Bowl
Down 10 at halftime, the Kansas City Chiefs did what they do best, mount a comeback to earn their second Super Bowl title in four years. It was a masterful second-half performance from Chiefs’ offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, who outmaneuvered Eagles’ defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon — who ...

Why do these XFL team names all sound like car models?
The post-Super Bowl no-football reality is about to set in, to the displeasure of sports fans and media alike. It’s as close as we get to acceptable bloodsport, and human violence is the most interesting drama and the only thing that draws page views. So thank god for The Rock, the XFL, and America ...
