Mandatory Credit: Denis Poroy-Imagn Images The San Francisco Giants' fading playoff hopes took a further blow Friday when right-hander Landen Roupp landed on the 15-day injured list with left knee inflammation.
The move is retroactive to Thursday for Roupp, who is 7-7 with a 3.80 ERA in 22 starts this season. He has allowed five runs in each of his last two starts, including in a loss Wednesday to the San Diego Padres.
The 26-year-old is 8-9 with a 3.73 ERA in 45 career appearances (26 starts) over the past two seasons for the Giants.
In a corresponding move, the Giants recalled left-hander Carson Whisenhunt from Triple-A Sacramento, who made his major league debut July 28 and went 1-1 with a 5.02 ERA in three starts for San Francisco.
A second-round draft pick in 2022, Whisenhunt is 9-5 with a 4.37 ERA in 19 starts at Sacramento this season.
