Rebilas-Imagn Images San Francisco Giants right-hander Jose Butto was scheduled to undergo a procedure to remove a blood clot from his right arm after he was placed on the injured list Thursday with arm fatigue.
Butto had been experiencing arm discomfort before making three relief appearances this season and struggling to a 22.50 ERA In two innings. In five major league seasons with the New York Mets and Giants, Butto is 13-10 with four saves and a 3.76 ERA.
Earlier this week, Butto was placed on the 15-day IL while right-hander Blade Tidwell was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento. In his season debut Thursday, Tidwell pitched three scoreless innings in relief against the New York Mets to pick up his first career save.
Tidwell and Butto were acquired by the Giants from the Mets last July, along with outfielder Drew Gilbert, in exchange for right-hander Tyler Rogers.
