Mandatory Credit: Stephen R. Sylvanie-Imagn Images Mark Stone scored 25 seconds into overtime to lift the visiting Vegas Golden Knights to their season-high fifth straight win as they defeated the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 on Wednesday night.
In overtime, Jack Eichel took the puck behind the Los Angeles net and drew goalie Darcy Kuemper out of the crease before making a diving pass to Stone out front. The Vegas captain scored to extend his point streak to nine games.
Stone had a goal and an assist, Braeden Bowman and Mitch Marner also scored, Eichel had three assists and Akira Schmid made 22 saves for the Golden Knights, whose winning streak comes on the heels of a five-game skid (0-3-2).
Kevin Fiala had a goal and an assist, Brandt Clarke also scored and Kuemper made 24 saves for the Kings, losers of four of five (1-2-2).
The Kings tied it 2-2 on Clarke's goal with 1:27 left in the third period and Kuemper pulled for the extra skater.
Clarke received a cross-ice pass to the side of the crease from Adrian Kempe and stuffed it through Schmid's pads.
Vegas had scored on the power play to take a 2-1 lead at 12:07 of the third period.
Kempe was in the box for hooking Shea Theodore when Marner received a pass above the circles, brought the puck a few strides closer to the Los Angeles goal and then fired a wrist shot into the net from the right hash marks.
The Golden Knights scored the lone goal through the first two periods at 3:56 of the second.
Three players from each team battled for the puck in the corner of the Los Angeles zone. Eichel managed to nudge it back to Theodore above the left circle.
Theodore tapped it back to Eichel in the same circle and he spotted Bowman left unmarked in the right circle. Eichel slid Bowman a backhand pass and he had time to make a couple stick moves before lifting the puck over Kuemper's glove for a 1-0 lead.
It was the first goal in 18 games for Bowman.
The Kings avoided getting shut out for the first time this season against the visiting Dallas Stars on Monday when they scored at 6:42 of the third period in the 3-1 loss.
Los Angeles ended Schmid's shutout bid when Fiala scored at 6:24 of the third to tie it 1-1.
Schmid made back-to-back saves on Alex Turcotte and Fiala, and Noah Hanifin blocked a shot by Turcotte before Fiala got to that rebound and scored the tying goal from the bottom line of the left circle.
