Mandatory Credit: Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young will be sidelined at least four weeks with a sprained MCL in his right knee, the team announced Saturday.
Young underwent an MRI exam Friday that confirmed the injury and ruled out structural damage, according to the team.
Young will be re-evaluated in approximately four weeks and an update will be released at that time.
The four-time All-Star suffered the injury during the Hawks' win over the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday. He played only seven minutes in that matchup.
Prior to that game, Young was averaging 20.8 points, 9.5 assists, and 1.0 steals in four appearances.
Last season, he averaged 24.2 points and a league-high 11.6 assists.
Nickeil Alexander-Walker should continue to start in Young's place, and Dyson Daniels will shoulder more of the playmaking workload.
The Hawks have opened the season with a 3-3 record. After adding Kristaps Porzingis, they are looking to be competitive in the Eastern Conference. That task will be considerably tougher over the next month without Young.
