Mandatory Credit: Joe Nicholson-Imagn Images Jorge Polanco homered twice and drove in all five runs as the Seattle Mariners defeated the visiting Los Angeles Angels 5-3 on Tuesday night.
Right-hander Bryce Miller (2-3) pitched five scoreless innings for the American League West-leading Mariners, who won their third in a row and for the 14th time in their past 19 games.
Mariners closer Andres Munoz worked a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his 11th save in as many opportunities. Munoz is tied for the major league lead in saves and has yet to allow a run in 15 appearances this season.
Miller allowed just two hits - a two-out single by Mike Trout in the first and a one-out single by Logan O'Hoppe in the second. Miller struck out six and worked around a career-high five walks.
O'Hoppe homered for the Angels, who lost their fourth straight.
Polanco, who was named the American League player of the week Monday, has hit six homers over his past six games, also going deep twice Saturday.
The Mariners came up empty after loading the bases with no outs in the first inning, but they struck in the second.
Miles Mastrobuoni drew a one-out walk and Leo Rivas singled to left. With two outs, Polanco went deep to right-center off Angels starter Jack Kochanowicz (1-4).
Polanco was robbed of a potential homer by center fielder Jo Adell's leaping catch at the wall in the fifth inning.
The score remained 3-0 until the seventh, when O'Hoppe led off with a blast to right-center off reliever Carlos Vargas.
In the bottom of the inning, Julio Rodriguez reached on a one-out infield single off reliever Jose Fermin and Polanco went deep to center, his ninth homer of the season.
The Angels pulled within 5-3 in the eighth as Zach Neto and Nolan Schanuel led off with back-to-back doubles off Gabe Speier. After a pair of strikeouts, Jorge Soler doubled off Casey Legumina to drive in Schanuel. O'Hoppe fouled out to first baseman Rowdy Tellez to end the inning.
Kochanowicz, a right-hander, gave up three runs on four hits over six innings, with four walks and six strikeouts.
