Guard-Imagn Images Sebastian Aho and Sean Walker scored third-period goals to lead the Hurricanes to a 3-1 road victory over the San Jose Sharks on Thursday, Carolina's eighth win in a row.
The Hurricanes (42-22-4, 88 points) are on the eighth winning streak of eight or more games in franchise history, with two of those runs coming this season. Carolina also won eight straight from Oct. 22-Nov. 7. The franchise record is an 11-game run in the 2022-23 season.
With the score tied 1-1 at 4:58 of the third period, Aho delivered his ninth game-winning goal of the season. Walker extended the lead by converting a point shot 14:18 into the final frame.
Seth Jarvis scored Carolina's other goal. He has four goals and two assists over a six-game points streak.
Frederik Andersen stopped 24 of 25 shots to earn his 10th victory in 15 starts this season.
William Eklund collected the only goal for the Sharks, who are 1-5-0 in their past six games. San Jose (18-42-9, 45 points) is in last place in the NHL standings.
In his first career start and just his fourth NHL game, Georgi Romanov looked sharp while stopping 26 of 29 Carolina shots.
San Jose opened the scoring with an unusual short-handed goal 13 minutes into the first period. Eklund was attempting a shot when he was taken down by Hurricanes defenseman Brent Burns, sending both Eklund and the puck into Carolina's net.
The play was initially whistled dead as a tripping penalty on Burns, but the referees determined that the puck crossed the line before Eklund dislodged the net. A follow-up video review confirmed Eklund's first career short-handed goal of his four NHL seasons.
Jarvis delivered the equalizer at 10:31 of the second period. A turnover deep in the Sharks' end resulted in a loose puck in front of the net, and Jarvis converted a quick shot for his team-leading 27th goal.
Jackson Blake had a would-be goal erased on an offside challenge in the second period, but Blake ended up assisting on the Hurricanes' actual go-ahead tally. Blake set up Aho for a big one-timer from the high slot that beat Romanov.
