It Looks Like David Kahn's Reign Of Terror Has Come To An End
Steve Aschburner of the NBA's Hangtime blog is reporting that Minnesota Timberwolves general manager David Kahn is on the cusp of being relieved of his duties. His likely replacement will be former T-Wolves coach Flip Saunders.
If Kahn is truly out, this will prove to be a bittersweet day for NBA fans. Not because Kahn was a competent or beloved GM, but because it was so much fun to mock him. This is the guy who drafted Ricky Rubio and Johnny Flynn with back-to-back picks, passed on Stephen Curry, and traded away Ty Lawson during the 2009 draft. This is the guy who drafted Wesley Johnson over DeMarcus Cousins in 2010. This is the guy who bought out Martell Webster's contract for $600,000 and amnestied Darko Milicic for $5 million just so he could make a $46.5 million offer to restricted free agent Nic Batum. Portland matched the offer, of course, and Kahn was left empty handed.
But no moment is as representative of Kahn's tenure as the one you see in the video above. During a summer league game in 2010, Kahn almost got himself choked out by Chris Webber when he compared Webber to Darko Milicic—whom Kahn had just signed to a four-year, $20 million deal and referred to as "manna from Heaven."
We'll miss you, David Kahn. Take this for the road.
