Iverson Asked Again To Carry A Team Devoid Of Talent
This image was lost some time after publication. The Nuggets were without Carmelo Anthony, Marcus Camby, and J.R. Smith last night ... which leaves the rest of their roster looking sort of like the one Iverson left in Philadelphia. Iverson couldn't carry this one to a win, either.
Myself, I found it strange to see Iverson in pansy-ass powder blue (but it's bad-ass when the Chargers do it) as opposed to the traditional Philadelphia black. He didn't have much problem adjusting, though. Iverson landed in Denver just two hours before tip-off, sat out the first 8 minutes, and then came off the bench to shoot 9-of-15 from the floor and rack up 10 assists to 2 turnovers in a 22-point effort.
The good news for Iverson is that it's not going to take him long to learn Denver's system, because they don't really have one. He didn't do a lot differently. The ball was in his hands a lot, he sliced through the Sacramento zone almost at will, and ultimately lost. It certainly didn't feel like the beginning of a new era.
And if you're curious, DerMarr Johnson gave up his number three to Iverson. Usually some cash will change hands in a situation like that, but in this case, a simple reminder to DerMarr Johnson that he is DerMarr Johnson should have done the trick.
