Mandatory Credit: Susan Mullane-Imagn Images After helping lead Italy to the 2023 and 2024 Davis Cup championships, Jannik Sinner will not be competing in this year's event.
Sinner, the second-ranked player in the ATP rankings who won the Australian Open and Wimbledon this year to bring his Grand Slam tally to four, has elected to end his season with next month's Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, Italy.
He will not participate in the Davis Cup, which is being held in Bologna, Italy, from Nov. 18-23.
"Jannik Sinner has not given his availability for 2025," Italian captain Filippo Volandri said.
"The Davis Cup is, and will remain, always his home and I am sure that Jannik will soon be part of the team again. In the meantime, I can count on a group ready to fight and give everything for the blue jersey."
Without Sinner, Italy's team consists of Matteo Berrettini, Simone Bolelli, Flavio Cobolli, Lorenzo Musetti and Andrea Vavassori.
World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, who won the other two Grand Slams this year to bring his tally to six at the age of 22, is competing for Spain, hoping to bring home the country's first Davis Cup title since 2019.
World No. 3 Alexander Zverev will also be making his first career Davis Cup appearance for Germany, which hasn't won the event since 1993.
