Mandatory Credit: John E. Sokolowski-Imagn Images The Toronto Blue Jays placed outfielder Nathan Lukes on the seven-day injured list on Wednesday and selected the contract of rookie outfielder Will Robertson from Triple-A Buffalo.
Lukes' move was retroactive to Tuesday. He apparently was hurt in the sixth inning of Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Minnesota Twins when he collided with Blue Jays second baseman Ernie Clement. Lukes started to feel concussion symptoms due to that collision, according to the team, which doesn't expect him to need more than seven days to recover.
Lukes, 30, last played on Monday, when he entered as a pinch hitter in the eighth and grounded into a double play. He drew an intentional walk in the 10th as the Jays defeated the host St. Louis Cardinals 5-4. He is batting .267 with four home runs and 21 RBIs in 49 games.
For his career, Lukes is batting .270 with five homers, 33 RBIs, a .355 on-base percentage and .401 slugging percentage in 100 games.
Robertson, 27, has played 491 minor league games since 2019, including 52 this season for Buffalo. He produced 12 home runs and 35 RBIs this season with a .288/.408/.583 slash line to earn his first major league call-up.
Toronto selected Robertson in the fourth round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of Creighton.
