Jets mum on starting QB decision with Tyrod Taylor healthy
East Rutherford, NJ -- August 22, 2025 -- Coach Aaron Glenn and quarterback Justin Fields of the Jets before the game. The Philadelphia Eagles came to MetLife Stadium to play the NY Jets in the final preseason season game. New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn declined to name his QB1 for Week 10 when speaking with reporters Friday.
Tyrod Taylor is off the injury report after being a full participant in practice all week. He had taken over for a benched Justin Fields on Oct. 19 during a loss to the Carolina Panthers, but came away from that game with a knee injury.
Fields remained under center for Week 8 and helped guide the Jets (1-7) to their first win of the season, 39-38 at the Cincinnati Bengals. New York had its bye in Week 9 and traded two of its top defensive players, cornerback Sauce Gardner and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, at the deadline Tuesday.
Asked about his starting quarterback for this Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, Glenn merely said, "We'll have a quarterback."
Taylor, 36, made one start in Week 3 when Fields was in concussion protocol. He performed well in a 29-27 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, completing 26 of 36 passes for 197 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
Field, 26, has amassed 1,089 yards through seven starts, throwing just five touchdowns with zero interceptions.
He signed a two-year, $40 million contract with the Jets in free agency after failing to establish himself as a franchise quarterback with the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Four players are questionable for the Jets: running back Khalil Herbert (groin), wide receiver Garrett Wilson (knee), offensive lineman Xavier Newman (ankle) and linebacker Kiko Mauigoa (concussion). Wilson, New York's No. 1 receiver, was upgraded Friday from limited in practice to a full participant.
Glenn did not say whether new receiver acquisitions Adonai Mitchell and John Metchie would be ready to make their team debuts Sunday. Mitchell came over from the Indianapolis Colts in the Gardner trade, while Metchie was acquired in a previous trade Oct. 29 with the Philadelphia Eagles.
