Jets rookie TE Kenyon Sadiq has setback after hernia surgery
New York Jets tight end and 1st round draft pick Kenyon Sadiq (16) takes a water break during a practice for the New York Jets at their training facility on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, in Florham Park. New York Jets rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq had a setback in his recovery from hernia surgery, head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed Tuesday.
Sadiq, drafted in the first round (16th overall) in April, had surgery in May and missed a sizable portion of the team's offseason program. He participated in the first three training camp practices before being sidelined Monday -- which Glenn deemed a scheduled off day -- and Tuesday.
Glenn didn't provide specifics about how long Sadiq could be sidelined, deeming he'll be out "a little bit," but did say he expects Sadiq to be available for the start of the regular season.
"I'm not real worried, but I think I want to make sure that I make the right decision and make sure I take care of him so he can be ready for the season," Glenn said.
Sadiq, 21, played through the injury last season at Oregon, missing one game but still finishing with a team-high eight touchdown catches and 560 receiving yards, which ranked second on the team.
He ran the fastest 40-yard dash time by a tight end (4.39) in NFL Scouting Combine history at February's event.
In other rookie injury news, Glenn said second-round pick D'Angelo Ponds will be sidelined for at least this week. The cornerback is dealing with a strained calf.
