Mandatory Credit: Terrence Lee-Imagn Images Jordan Kyrou had two goals while Dylan Holloway and Robert Thomas each added one to go along with an assist as the St. Louis Blues handed the host Winnipeg Jets their fourth consecutive loss with a 4-1 victory on Tuesday night.
Kyrou and Holloway scored 39 seconds apart late in the second period for St. Louis, which outshot the Jets 32-23 to improve to 3-0-1 under new coach Jim Montgomery. Meanwhile, Winnipeg native Joel Hofer was solid in making 22 saves to win for the fifth time in eight starts this season.
Mark Scheifele scored on a long rebound with 4:15 left in regulation and the goaltender pulled for the Jets, who are 3-7-0 after winning 15 of their first 16 games of the season. Connor Hellebuyck made 28 saves for Winnipeg, which has totaled six goals during its four-game skid.
The Jets held a modest 8-6 edge in shots on goal in the first period. However, the Blues had the first true scoring chance, but Hellebuyck turned away Zack Bolduc's partial breakaway attempt less than three minutes into the contest.
Kyle Connor nearly put Winnipeg ahead with 10:02 left in the first. However, Hofer made a sliding pad save to set the tempo.
Then, St. Louis nearly broke the scoreless deadlock early in the second, but Winnipeg's Haydn Fleury cleared the puck out of the crease after it slid through Hellebuyck's legs.
The Blues were finally rewarded when Brayden Schenn sauced a pass for the streaking Kyrou to convert after going to the backhand against Hellebuyck with 1:56 remaining in the second. Less than 40 seconds later, a streaking Holloway converted his own rebound.
St. Louis outshot the Jets 19-3 in the second period.
Hofer, meanwhile, continued to stand his ground by making a glove save as Neal Pionk skated unchecked on a rush less than two minutes into the third. The Blues added some insurance with 13:22 to go when Kyrou sent in a pass that Holloway sent into the back of the net while sitting on the ice for a 3-0 lead.
