Mandatory Credit: Daniel Kucin Jr.-Imagn Images Jorge Mateo's two-run homer and Dean Kremer's six innings of solid pitching lifted the Baltimore Orioles in a 4-2 victory against the visiting Chicago White Sox on Saturday.
Jackson Holliday homered in the first inning and the Orioles won for the fifth time in seven games despite managing only five hits. They've won the first two games of the three-game between the teams with the two worst records in the American League.
Coby Mayo, who just returned to the Orioles after a stint in Triple-A Norfolk, also drove in a run for Baltimore.
Mike Tauchman racked up three of Chicago's eight hits and Josh Rojas had two others White Sox starter Davis Martin (2-6) took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits in six innings.
Kremer (5-5) was charged with one run on six hits while walking two and striking out seven. He won for the third time in his last four decisions.
Felix Bautista, the fourth Baltimore reliever used, survived a messy ninth inning for the second day in a row. The White Sox left two runners stranded when the game ended as Bautista, who issued two walks, struck out Austin Slater to register his 10th save.
Chicago, which also drew two walks in the eighth, stranded 12 runners for the game.
Holliday hit the third pitch from Martin in the bottom of the first inning for his seventh home run of the season.
Mayo's two-out single in the fourth pushed the score to 2-0, though he was out trying to stretch the hit into a double.
The White Sox got on the board when Andrew Benintendi singled in Mike Tauchman in the fifth inning. That was the same combination that produced Chicago's lone run Friday, with Benintendi driving in Tauchman.
Mateo's first home run of 2025 came in the fifth. He now has three runs batted in 28 games this season. He also stole two bases on Saturday.
