Katie Stewart's late blast propels Texas past Nebraska at WCWS
Texas utility Katie Stewart (20) forces out Nebraska utility Samantha Bland (29) at first base in the second inning during a softball game at the Women’s College World Series between Texas and Nebraska at Devon Park in Oklahoma City, on Sunday, May 31, 2026. Katie Stewart blasted a three-run home run in the sixth inning to keep defending champion Texas alive with a 3-1 win over Nebraska in a Women's College World Series elimination game Sunday in Oklahoma City.
Nebraska two-way star Jordy Frahm was cruising, taking a no-hitter into the sixth before Jaycie Nichols' infield single with one out.
Kayden Henry followed with a single before Stewart crushed Frahm's 0-1 offering out to left.
The Longhorns (49-12) will take on Tennessee on Monday, needing to beat the Volunteers in back-to-back games to advance to the best-of-three WCWS championship series.
Tennessee beat Texas 6-3 in the opening round Thursday.
Frahm got Nebraska going quickly, taking Teagan Kavan's third pitch of the game out to center, just over the outstretched glove of center fielder Henry.
Kavan settled in after that, retiring nine consecutive batters after Frahm's home run, then working her way out of a fourth-inning jam following Hannah Coor's leadoff double.
Kavan went the distance, allowing just four hits with no walks and striking out three.
Frahm was perfect through 4 1/3 innings before walking Reese Atwood on a 3-2 pitch in the fifth.
But Frahm retired the next two hitters, striking out Hannah Wells to end the inning.
