Brunson sustained the injury during the overtime period of the Knicks' 113-109 loss to the host Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night.
The 28-year-old is in the midst of his second consecutive All-Star season, averaging 26.3 points, 7.4 assists and 1.0 steal per game while shooting 38.4 percent from 3-point range.
The Knicks (40-22) currently reside in third place in the Eastern Conference, 3.5 games ahead of the fourth-place Milwaukee Bucks. The Lakers game became New York's five-game West Coast road trip, with the Knicks set to oppose the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday night.
With Brunson out, fourth-year guard Miles McBride is expected to slide into the starting lineup. He made 14 starts last season, averaging 17.9 points and 4.1 assists in those contests.
