Kraken beat Islanders in shootout to end skid

Tatar shuffled the puck several times before deking Ilya Sorokin, who was caught leaning to his right as Tatar tucked a shot into the left corner of the net.
Matty Beniers scored in the first period for the Kraken, who snapped a three-game losing streak (0-3-0) and won in the shootout for just the second time this season. Goalie Philipp Grubauer made 26 saves before turning back all three Islanders attempts in the shootout.
Kyle Palmieri scored in the second period for the Islanders, who have lost two straight to fall to 3-4-1 under Patrick Roy. Sorokin recorded 29 saves.
Beniers absorbed a hard hit from Islanders defenseman Ryan Pulock before capping a chaotic sequence with the game's first goal 5:27 after the opening faceoff.
Kraken right winger Jordan Eberle, who played four seasons for New York before being picked by Seattle in the expansion draft, tussled with Pulock after the Islanders gained possession and began an end-to-end rush. But Palmieri lost control of the puck while whirling away from Adam Larsson. Jared McCann then sent a clearing pass to Beniers, who was all alone on the right side of the ice. The center fired a shot over Sorokin's pads and into the far corner of the net.
The Islanders had just three shots on their first two power plays — including a four-minute sequence in the first period after a high-sticking call on Kraken left winger Andre Burakovsky — before tying the score after Yanni Gourde was whistled for boarding Casey Cizikas late in the second. Larsson whiffed while trying to pass from behind the Seattle net and Mathew Barzal picked up the puck and passed to Palmieri, who beat Grubauer from point-blank range with 5:23 left.
The Kraken outshot the Islanders 11-5 during a scoreless third in which both teams had prime scoring chances in the final minute-plus. Sorokin preserved the tie by smothering Jamie Oleksiak's redirect of Will Borgen's shot with 1:05 left. Seattle turned the puck over deep in its zone and Barzal sent a between-the-legs pass to Bo Horvat, whose shot sailed left of the net with 32 seconds remaining.
