Mandatory Credit: Aaron Doster-Imagn Images Lee Westwood withdrew from the first two tournaments of the new LIV Golf season because of a wrist injury, he revealed Monday.
Westwood, who co-captains Majesticks GC alongside fellow Englishman Ian Poulter, bowed out of the tour's opener in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which begins Wednesday. The tournament will be played at night at Riyadh Golf Club.
He also will skip LIV's stop in Adelaide, Australia, next week and plans to return for the event in Hong Kong from March 5-8.
"Thankfully, (the injury is) nothing too serious; however, I've been advised to manage my rep count over the coming weeks," Westwood wrote on social media. "I look forward to starting my season in Hong Kong and wish Majesticks Golf Club all the best under the lights and Down Under!"
DP World Tour member Ben Schmidt will substitute for Westwood in Riyadh.
The European tour may discipline Schmidt, a 23-year-old Englishman and first-time LIV participant, because he has not been granted a release to compete with LIV Golf, Bunkered reported Monday.
Westwood, 52, starred in Europe for decades and secured two career PGA Tour wins before he joined LIV when the tour formed in 2022. He narrowly avoided relegation as the No. 46 player in the 2025 standings.
