LHP Drew Pomeranz returns to Cubs on minor league deal

Mandatory Credit: David Banks-Imagn Images Left-hander Drew Pomeranz has returned to the Chicago Cubs on a minor league deal two weeks after he was designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Angels.
Pomeranz, 37, did not appear in a major league game from 2022-24 before making a triumphant return with the Cubs in 2025 when he went 2-2 with one save and a 2.17 ERA in a career-high 57 appearances (four starts).
Pomeranz signed a free-agent deal with the Angels and went 0-3 with a 5.01 ERA in 25 relief appearances this season before he was designated for assignment on June 15. He made his first appearance for the Cubs' Triple-A affiliate in Iowa on Sunday and had a scoreless inning.
In 13 major league seasons, Pomeranz is 50-63 with a 3.85 ERA in 371 appearances (144 starts) for the Colorado Rockies (2011-13), Oakland Athletics (2014-15), San Diego Padres (2016, 2020-21), Boston Red Sox (2016-18), San Francisco Giants (2019), Milwaukee Brewers (2019), Cubs and Angels.
