College Playoff Selection Committee Makes Complex Process More Complex
Lost in the avalanche of legal battles against the NCAA is that the first college football playoff is coming this year! The 2014 season's champion will be settled based on a four-team playoff, with the bracket selected by the aptly-titled College Football Playoff Selection Committee. ...
Safe Is The Best Jason Statham Movie
You can learn a lot about someone from his or her favorite Jason Statham movie. For instance, if your pick is Crank (or, fucking hell, Crank 2), I know you don't really like Jason Statham movies that much. Those are built on a fun concept, and they have a few great ideas, but they're Mountain Dew co...
Actually, Here Is A Good Ranking Of The Fruits
Many internet web sites like to rank the fruits. You can see right away that these rankings are wrong and bad, both because their results are stupid, and for the reason those results are stupid, which is that they were assembled using a lousy-ass amateurish methodology. Amateur bush-league-ass...
Robin Williams's Terminal Condition: On The World According to Garp
In 1982, Robin Williams went on a Dallas-area talk show to discuss his title role in the film adaptation of John Irving's novel The World According to Garp. The show's host—a cheerful, robotic woman named Bobbie Wygant—asks her questions, and Williams provides his answers....
The Expendables 3: An Actor-By-Actor Breakdown
No film series in recent memory relies more on the sheer mass of its cast than the Expendables movies. I've seen the assembled talent referred to as the Traveling Wilburys of '80s Action Stars, but there were only five of those guys. This more resembles the cast of a '70s disaster movie, in which ...

Don’t Let Anyone Tell You The O’Bannon Ruling Conflicts With Title IX
I'm already starting to see rumblings out there that the recent ruling by Judge Claudia Wilken (of which I present a broader, preliminary analysis here) is somehow incompatible with the existing obligation of universities to comply with Title IX. That's simply false, and it's important to understan...
Smackdown: Burger King's Extra Long BBQ Vs. McDonald's Jalapeño Double
At first glance, a horizontally oriented double cheeseburger doesn't seem very flashy: Mankind is well accustomed to taking our meals the long way. Cheesesteaks, ribs, roll-ups, Twinkies, wraps, corn, whatever the hell a hoagie is: All these and more have been served to us on the landscape setting...

Just A Few Baseball Fans Dressed As Peapods, Chatting
"I dunno, I feel like I don't read anymore, you know? Have you read any good books recently? Nothing interests me. New fiction, classics, non-fiction, none of it. My kid tried to get me to read Lord Of The Rings and I was like, "I already read Jordan's autobiography."...
America Is Not For Black People
The United States of America is not for black people. We know this, and then we put it out of our minds, and then something happens to remind us. Saturday, in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson, Mo., something like that happened: An unarmed 18-year-old black man was executed by police in broad dayli...

West Virginia Coach Tells Truth, School Pretends It Never Happened
In the wild world of the NCAA, we're forced to swallow a lot of crap from coaches about educating the future, turning boys into men, etc. So honesty is pretty refreshing on the rare chance that it occurs. Today, West Virginia football coach Dana Holgorsen gave us an unfiltered peek into the world of...
