Mandatory Credit: Benny Sieu-Imagn Images Luis Severino allowed one run on three hits over eight innings to pick up his first win of the season and lead the visiting Athletics past the Milwaukee Brewers 3-1 Saturday night.
Brent Rooker and Shea Langeliers homered and Jacob Wilson had two hits and a stolen base for the Athletics who won for the fourth time in five games.
Severino (1-3), who signed the largest free-agent contract in franchise history in December (three years, $67 million including a $10 million signing bonus), didn't walk a batter and struck out one, getting 13 fly-ball outs along the way. He threw 92 pitches, 63 for strikes.
Mason Miller pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to pick up his sixth save in six tries, striking out two, including Christian Yelich on a 102.1 mph fastball to end the game.
Garrett Mitchell doubled and scored a run for Milwaukee, which had a three-game win streak snapped. Chad Patrick (1-1) suffered the loss allowing two runs on seven hits over six innings. He struck out seven and didn't walk a batter.
Milwaukee took a 1-0 lead in third inning when Mitchell doubled into the gap in right-center, advanced to third on a groundout by Joey Ortiz and scored on a grounder to short by Caleb Durbin.
The A's tied it at 1 in the fifth inning. JJ Bleday led off with a bloop single to left, advanced to second on a single by Wilson and scored on a double to left by Miguel Andujar.
Rooker, who tied for fourth in the American League in home runs in 2024 with 39, led off the sixth inning with his sixth of the season to give the Athletics a 2-1 lead, a 398-foot drive to center that just went over the glove of Mitchell.
Langeliers made it 3-1 in the ninth when he led off with his fifth home run against reliever Joel Payamps, a 423-foot drive to left-center.
