Luis Suárez Scores Hat Trick, Is Just Toying With People Now
Liverpool are playing West Brom today in what was supposed to be a competitive match. After all, West Brom have already beaten Manchester United at Old Trafford and outplayed league leaders Arsenal at times in a draw, so you gotta think they might have what it takes to challenge Liverpool. They do not, because Luis Suárez is not human.
In the 12th minute, Suárez controlled a long, probing pass in the middle of a cluster of West Brom players and ran straight at center back Jonas Olsson. Olsson dug in his heels at the top of the box for the challenge, but with a nifty touch, Suárez poked the ball through the defender's legs to pass him by. Then instead of collecting himself, and more importantly, giving the keeper a chance to get set, the striker smartly took a quick, low shot for the finish.
The Uruguayan's second goal just five minutes later was, in some ways, even better. Suárez started the move when he once again received a pass in the heart of the West Brom defense, then played a ball out wide for left back Aly Cissokho. The pass itself was poor, but the speedy Liverpool player was able to get there just in time, and clipped a first-time cross along the top of the box to an awaiting Suárez.
Suárez, who's not known for his heading prowess, headed the ball towards goal, and redirected the cross perfectly into the top left corner from 18 yards out. It's a feat to beat most Premier League keepers from that distance. That the striker did it with his head is obscene.
Liverpool coasted into half, 2-0, and Suárez completed his hat trick 10 minutes after the break with yet another header. Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard chipped a perfect free kick near post into the Uruguayan's path, and Suárez flicked the cross to the back post for his third. Easy.
Luis Suárez has now scored six goals in his first four Premier League matches for the Reds since returning from suspension. He's the best forward in the league right now, and it's not close.
Liverpool went on to win comfortably, 4-1.
