Tre Donaldson posted 18 points and went 2-for-4 from 3-point range for the Hurricanes (17-4, 6-2), who have won two straight and improved to 12-1 at home for the season. Ernest Udeh Jr. led the team with nine rebounds.
Miami was held without a field goal for 5:49 to end the first half and trailed 40-35 at the half. The Cardinal mounted a 47-38 lead, but a massive scoring drought led to Donaldson's 3-pointer tying the game 51-51 with 9:35 left in the game. Dante Allen's layup allowed Miami to take a 58-56 lead with 5:59 to play, and a 14-2 run put the home team ahead 67-58 with 2:46 to play. Benny Gealer hit Stanford's first 3-pointer of the half to stop the bleeding, but Miami took a 71-61 lead with 1:20 remaining. Missed opportunities for Stanford in the final minute solidified the 79-70 final.
Ebuka Okorie had 19 points for the Cardinal (14-7, 3-5), who have now lost three straight games. Gealer posted 17 points and was 5-for-8 from beyond the arc, and Ryan Agarwal added 11 points.
Three early turnovers for Stanford aided Miami's 7-0 run to go up 11-2 with 16:26 to go in the first half. They had their biggest lead of the half, 22-12, with 11:38 remaining. Stanford's 7-0 run cut the deficit to 22-19 with 9:17 left on the clock. Stanford went on a late 8-0 run and took a 34-33 lead on a second-chance layup by Agarwal with 1:55 remaining.
