Ross Cameron-Imagn Images The Seattle Mariners found their backup to American League MVP runner-up Cal Raleigh, signing veteran catcher Andrew Knizner to a one-year contract on Tuesday.
Knizner, 30, fills the spot left vacant when the Mariners traded top catching prospect Harry Ford to the Washington Nationals last week in exchange for left-handed reliever Jose Ferrer.
Non-tendered by the San Francisco Giants last month, Knizner is a seven-year veteran who has hit .211 with 19 home runs and 90 RBIs in 323 games with the Giants (2025), Texas Rangers (2024) and St. Louis Cardinals (2019-23).
Knizner made his MLB debut in 2019 with the Cardinals, who drafted the Virginia native in the seventh round of the 2016 draft out of NC State.
