Mandatory Credit: Jonathan Dyer-Imagn Images The Miami Marlins will be without All-Star outfielder Kyle Stowers for the first 3-4 weeks of the regular season due to a hamstring injury.
The team announced on Sunday that Stowers will be placed on the injured list. He appeared in just six games during spring training as the Marlins limited his workload to potentially have him ready for Opening Day on Friday against the Colorado Rockies.
Stowers, 28, made one of Major League Baseball's biggest leaps in 2025. He entered the year with a .191 average, nine homers and 59 RBIs in 117 games spread across three seasons.
But in his first full campaign with the Marlins, Stowers batted .288 with 25 homers and 73 RBIs in 117 games while earning a spot on the National League All-Star team.
Without Stowers and Esteury Ruiz, the base-stealing savant who will start the season on the IL due to a left oblique strain, the Marlins might have to solve their outfield issues creatively.
For Saturday's exhibition loss against the St. Louis Cardinals, the Marlins placed infielder Connor Norby in left field. Norby, who has never appeared in a regular-season game in the outfield, entered Sunday with a .310 batting average this spring with two homers and three stolen bases in 42 at-bats.
Miami also has second-year outfielder Heriberto Hernandez, who appeared in 87 games last year and compiled a .266 average with 10 homers and a .785 OPS. Hernandez, 26, has added a speed element to his game this spring with four steals in 13 games. He entered Sunday with three homers and a .226 average in 31 at-bats.
