Maurice Jones-Drew Is Retiring
Running back Maurice Jones-Drew just announced his retirement from the NFL, which is oddly affecting, because he was tiny and strong and great and so much fun to watch.
I can't believe he only played nine pro seasons in the NFL. He's only 29 years old! Nothing like a running back's swift demise to remind you of this sport's unforgiving attrition rates.
For a few years there, he was the only reason to watch the Jaguars. But he was such a blast to watch—getting around, and underneath potential tacklers, and sometimes going straight through them thanks to his ridiculous build and unfair center of gravity. He was also a supremely likable person, so there'll be a media job for him if he wants it, but I can't think of a better way to praise his career than by just watching a bunch of videos.
He'll sincerely be missed.
