Medical Motorcycle Takes Out Professional Cyclist During Race
During today’s Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne, Lotto-Soudal’s Stig Broeckx was drifting off to the right of the peloton, presumably to go back to his team car, when a medical motorbike tried to shoot the gap, but only ended up skidding Broeckx to the deck.
The moto driver just plowed on ahead of the peloton and kept going. Broeckx was taken to the hospital.
This is the second year running where a motorized vehicle has taken out a cyclist during the Belgian classics. Trek’s Jesse Sergent got floored by a Shimano car during the 2015 Ronde Van Vlaanderen
Sergent’s former teammate Jasper Stuyven wound up taking the race today with an audacious solo break inside the last 20 kilometers.
