The Mets start the season at home on March 28 against the Milwaukee Brewers. Freddy Peralta was tabbed by the Brewers to start.
Quintana, 35, is 0-1 with a 2.08 ERA in three starts this spring. He went 3-6 with a 3.57 ERA in 13 starts last season. He missed half of the season with a stress fracture in his ribcage.
It will mark the second Opening Day nod of Quintana's career. He opened the season for the Chicago White Sox in 2017. He's the first lefty to pitch Opening Day for the Mets since Jon Niese in 2013.
Quintana is 92-93 with a 3.74 ERA in 328 career appearances (302 starts) with seven teams, including the White Sox from 2012-17.
Mets No. 1 starter Kodai Senga is sidelined with a moderate posterior capsule strain in his pitching shoulder and will likely open the season on the injured list.
