Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports Jesse Minter will remain Jim Harbaugh's defensive coordinator, though both are moving nearly 2,000 miles to the southwest.
Minter, Michigan's defensive coordinator the past two seasons, accepted the same job with the Los Angeles Chargers on Tuesday. The Chargers' new head coach is former Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh.
The two helped lead Michigan to the national championship last month.
In Minter's two seasons guiding the Wolverines' defense, Michigan yielded an average of just 268.8 yards per game, the second-best figure in the nation.
Minter, 40, tweeted a thank-you to his former team on Tuesday, writing, "Nothing but love to everyone at Michigan, especially the players. We had a great journey together."
Minter started as a coaching intern at Notre Dame (2006) and a graduate assistant at Cincinnati (2007-08) before becoming linebackers coach at Indiana State (2009-10). He was the Sycamores' defensive coordinator for two years before a three-year run as Georgia State's defensive coordinator.
Minter jumped to the NFL as an assistant coach under Jim Harbaugh's brother John with the Baltimore Ravens (2017-20). He was Vanderbilt's defensive coordinator and safeties coach in 2021 before moving to Ann Arbor.
According to multiple reports, the Chargers also are set to hire Greg Roman as their offensive coordinator.
