MLS transactions roundup: Revs sign F Daniel Gazdag

The New England Revolution signed veteran midfielder Daniel Gazdag through December 2027 on Tuesday with club options through the 2028-29 season.

The 30-year-old Hungarian is the all-time leading scorer in Philadelphia Union history with 72 goals across all competitions from 2021-25. He joined the Columbus Crew in April 2025 and scored seven goals in 43 MLS matches before agreeing to a contract buyout last week.

"Daniel has proven over several years that he is one of our league's premier goal-scoring midfielders, and his versatility and quality on the ball will add another critical piece to our attack," Revs general manager and chief soccer officer Chris Tierney said.

--The Houston Dynamo and defender Erik Sviatchenko agreed to terminate his contract as he signs with Port FC in Thailand's top flight.

The 34-year-old joined Houston on a full transfer from FC Midtjylland in Denmark in March 2023. He totaled 80 MLS appearances with the Dynamo, scoring two goals and recording five assists.

Sviatchenko was a central figure in Houston's 2023 U.S. Open Cup title and run to the 2023 MLS Cup Western Conference final.

--The Chicago Fire signed Norwegian defender Andreas Hanche-Olsen and Georgian midfielder Anzor Mekvabishvili.


Hanche-Olsen, 29, arrives from German Bundesliga side Mainz 05 and will occupy an international roster slot. He is signed through the 2030-31 season. He has scored 12 goals and 10 assists in more than 300 matches across Norway, Belgium and Germany.

Mekvabishvili, 25, transfers from Romanian Liga 1 club Universitatea Craiova and will occupy an international roster slot. He is signed through 2028-29 with an option for 2029-30. He accumulated four championships while making more than 230 appearances across Europe.

--The Colorado Rapids acquired Israeli striker Sayed Abu Farkhi from Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Farkhi, 20, joins the club as a U22 initiative player on a contract through the 2029-30 MLS season with an option for 2030-31. He will take up an international roster slot.

He scored 14 goals and added three assists in 45 appearances across all competitions for Maccabi Tel Aviv.

--The Vancouver Whitecaps acquired Angolan defender Rui Modesto and Guinea international forward Yadaly Diaby.

Modesto, 26, arrives via transfer from Italian Serie A side Udinese and is signed through 2029-30 with a club option or 2030-31. He tallied 28 goals and 32 assists in 160 professional appearances in Europe.

Diaby, 26, transfers from French Ligue 2 side Grenoble Foot 38 and is signed through 2029-30 with an option for the 2030-31 season. He registered 30 goals and 12 assists in 158 appearances for clubs in France and Austria.
