Mandatory Credit: Perry Nelson-Imagn Images Nathan MacKinnon scored twice and added two assists as the visiting Colorado Avalanche thumped the Edmonton Oilers 9-1 on Saturday night.
Parker Kelly scored twice and added an assist, Cale Makar and Jack Drury each added a pair of goals, and Gavin Brindley had a goal and a helper, for the Avalanche, who have points in six straight (4-0-2) and improved to 5-1-3 on the road.
Devon Toews had three assists, and Zakhar Bardakov added a pair of helpers.
Goaltender Scott Wedgewood made 23 saves.
Connor McDavid responded for the Oilers, who have dropped three straight and lost on home ice for the first time (4-1-2).
Stuart Skinner allowed four goals on 13 shots. Calvin Pickard stopped 16 shots in relief.
MacKinnon made it 7-1, on a 2-on-1, snapping a short-side shot past Pickard 24 seconds into the third.
The Avalanche forward added his second of the night at 5:02 of the third, beating Pickard glove side with a wrist shot.
Drury's second of the night came at 14:28 of the third as he one-timed a Ross Colton feed home.
Leading 2-0, the Avalanche scored twice in a 2:07 span of the second period.
Brindley extended Colorado's lead to 3-0 at 2:38, backhanding a shot under the arm of Skinner.
Colorado took a 4-0 lead at 4:45 as Drury redirected a Brent Burns shot past Skinner.
Kelly made it 5-0, putting a backhander past Pickard at 9:34.
McDavid got Edmonton on the board on a power play at 11:30, snapping a shot short side under the blocker of Wedgewood.
Colorado restored its five-goal lead as Kelly added his second of the night on a short-handed breakaway at 14:38.
Makar scored twice in 1:06 of the first period, giving the Avalanche a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.
The Avalanche defenseman opened the scoring at 13:29, beating Skinner post and on the blocker side. Makar added his second at 14:35, putting a wrist shot from the top of the face-off circle past Skinner.
