Newcomer Nathaniel Lowe helps Red Sox down Yankees

Mandatory Credit: Wendell Cruz-Imagn Images Nathaniel Lowe delivered his second key hit in as many games Thursday night, when he laced the tiebreaking double in the seventh inning to help the visiting Boston Red Sox earn a 6-3 win over the New York Yankees.
Roman Anthony had a game-tying single in the sixth and added insurance with a two-run homer into the second deck in the ninth for the Red Sox, who snapped a three-game losing streak and moved within a half-game of the Yankees for the top American League wild-card position.
After taking the opener of a four-game series between the longtime rivals, Boston is 6-1 this season against New York.
The Red Sox won despite leaving 14 runners on base and going just 3-for-19 with runners in scoring position.
Ben Rice homered and Paul Goldschmidt and Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit RBI singles for the Yankees, who had their five-game winning streak snapped. New York committed four errors that led to three unearned runs.
Ceddanne Rafaela scored on a second-inning throwing error by New York catcher Rice, and Lowe lofted a game-tying sacrifice fly in the fifth. Two innings later, Lowe doubled off Luke Weaver (3-4) immediately after Trevor Story's leadoff single.
Lowe, who signed with the Red Sox on Monday after being released by the Washington Nationals, made his first start with his new team Tuesday, when he hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning of a 4-3, 11-inning loss to the Baltimore Orioles.
Greg Weissert (5-4), the third of six Red Sox pitchers, earned the win with 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Aroldis Chapman notched his 23rd save with a perfect ninth.
Red Sox starter Lucas Giolito allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four over 4 2/3 innings. The Yankees' Luis Gil gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits and five walks while striking out three over five innings.
