Downing-Imagn Images Tyler Seguin scored 5:31 into overtime, and the Dallas Stars beat the Colorado Avalanche 2-1 in Denver on Wednesday night to steal home ice back in their Western Conference quarterfinal series.
Jamie Benn also scored and Jake Oettinger turned away 27 shots for Dallas, which leads the best-of-seven series 2-1.
Valeri Nichushkin scored and Mackenzie Blackwood made 26 saves for the Avalanche, who couldn't capitalize on a four-minute power play at the end of regulation and the start of overtime.
The loss spoiled the return of Colorado captain Gabriel Landeskog. The left winger had not played since lifting the Stanley Cup on June 26, 2022. A right knee injury required four surgeries, including cartilage replacement.
Capitals 3, Canadiens 1
Connor McMichael scored twice and Logan Thompson made 14 of his 25 saves in the third period as Washington beat visiting Montreal to take a 2-0 lead in their first-round Eastern Conference matchup.
Dylan Strome scored the go-ahead goal for the Capitals early in the second period, exactly one minute after McMichael tied the game.
Christian Dvorak got his first goal of the playoffs for the Canadiens, opening the scoring at 1:16 of the middle period. Sam Montembeault kept Montreal in the contest by stopping 29 shots.
Kings 6, Oilers 2
Adrian Kempe scored twice in a four-point game and Anze Kopitar collected one goal and three assists to lead host Los Angeles past Edmonton for a 2-0 lead in their first-round Western Conference playoff series.
Andrei Kuzmenko posted one goal and one assist while Brandt Clarke and Quinton Byfield each scored for the Kings. Warren Foegele collected two assists and Darcy Kuemper made 24 saves.
Leon Draisaitl and Viktor Arvidsson replied for the Oilers. Starting goalie Stuart Skinner stopped 23 of 28 shots before being pulled midway through the third period. Calvin Pickard made two saves in relief.
