No three-peat: Carlos Alcaraz (wrist) to miss French Open

Mandatory Credit: Susan Mullane-Imagn Images Two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will miss the French Open due to a right wrist injury, the World No. 2 announced on Friday.
The 22-year-old Spaniard pulled out of the Barcelona Open after his first-round win earlier this month and withdrew from the Madrid Open before crossing Rome and Roland Garros off his clay-court calendar on Friday.
"After the results of the tests carried out today, we have decided that the most prudent thing to do is to be cautious and not participate in Rome or Roland Garros as we wait to evaluate the progress so we can decide when to return to the court," he wrote on Instagram, translated from Spanish. "This is a difficult time for me, but I am sure we will come out of it stronger."
Alcaraz is 22-3 this season, including his 25th and 26th career ATP Tour titles at the Australian Open and Qatar Open.
"Some heartbreaking news as Carlos Alcaraz, our 2024 and 2025 champion, will not be able to defend his title at Roland-Garros 2026 due to a wrist injury," the tournament posted on X. "Wishing you all the best in your recovery Carlos, we'll miss you!"
The seven-time grand slam winner's earliest potential return is early June. He is the defending champion at the HSBC Championships in London, which runs from June 12-21 and is followed by Wimbledon.
