The 24-year-old Brooklyn native's deal runs through the 2024 season and includes options through 2026.
A first-round draft pick by Orlando City SC in 2021, Hope-Gund has yet to make his MLS debut.
He played for the MLS NEXT Pro affiliate New York City FC II in 2023 and posted one assist in 24 matches.
"We are delighted to have signed Rio to a first team contract," NYCFC sporting director David Lee said. "We've been impressed with Rio's development since he joined the second team last season. He's consistently worked hard and demonstrated his professionalism since joining the club, and is deserving of this opportunity. Rio offers depth and quality at the center back position, as we aim to challenge in all competitions this season."
Hope-Gund played collegiately at Georgetown, winning the NCAA national championship in 2019.
